GA4 Weekly Report Email: 3 Ways to Automate It
By Torstein Skulbru ·
The fastest way to get a GA4 weekly report by email is built into GA4: open a report, click Share this report → Schedule email, and choose weekly. It sends a PDF or CSV of that one report, for one property, to people who already have access. If you want a summary across several properties, a report for someone outside GA4, or a written explanation instead of a chart, you need Looker Studio or an AI digest such as Plask's.
Below are the exact steps for all three, what each email actually contains, and a table to pick between them.
Option 1: GA4 scheduled emails (built in, one report per property)
GA4 can email any standard or custom report on a schedule. This is the least-known of the three options because it lives behind a share icon rather than in Admin.
- In GA4, open Reports and navigate to the report you want to send, for example Acquisition → Traffic acquisition. Set the date range and any comparison you want baked in.
- Click the Share this report icon in the top right of the report and choose Schedule email.
- Choose the frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly), the format (PDF or CSV), the active period (1 to 12 months), and the recipients. You can only pick users who already have access to the property, up to 50, and user groups are not supported.
- Save. Existing schedules are managed under Admin → Property → Scheduled emails, with a limit of 50 per property.
What you get is a snapshot of that report as an attachment. Limits worth knowing:
- Administrators only can create scheduled emails, and recipients must already have property access, which rules out most client reporting.
- One report, one property per schedule. A five-property weekly review is five schedules and five separate emails.
- Explorations cannot be scheduled. Funnel and path explorations can be exported manually or shared by link, but not emailed on a cadence. Realtime reports are also excluded.
- Schedules expire after the active period you chose (max 12 months) and must be renewed.
Option 2: Looker Studio scheduled delivery (any recipient, PDF)
Looker Studio is the standard answer for client-facing weekly reports. You build a report with the GA4 connector (one data source per property), lay out the pages you want, and then:
- Open the report in view mode and click Share → Schedule delivery.
- Add recipient email addresses (up to 50; they do not need Google Analytics access), write a subject and message, and pick which pages to include.
- Choose the cadence: daily, weekly, monthly, or a custom repeat. On the free tier you can have one schedule per report, delivered at most once a day.
Recipients get a PDF of the report with the date range you configured, so "last 7 days" with a "previous period" comparison gives you a real week-over-week view. Looker Studio Pro (a paid per-user license) adds delivery to Slack and Google Chat and up to 200 schedules per report.
The downside is the same as any Looker Studio project: you build and maintain it, it is a picture of numbers rather than an interpretation, and a multi-property overview means multiple data sources and blends. The setup trade-offs are covered in one dashboard for multiple GA4 properties.
Option 3: Plask AI weekly digest (portfolio summary, written for you)
Plask's digest is a different kind of email. Instead of a chart snapshot, it is a short written report across all your connected GA4 properties, generated every Monday at 08:00 UTC for the previous Monday-to-Sunday week.
Each digest contains:
- Week-over-week comparisons per property for active users, sessions, pageviews, engagement rate, and revenue, with delta percentages.
- Trend analysis that flags multi-week trajectories rather than one-day spikes, so you can tell momentum from noise.
- Anomaly recap: every alert from the week, consolidated, with whether the deviation resolved or is still ongoing.
- Portfolio overview: which properties grew, which need attention, and how the whole set performed.
- Recommendations tied to the actual metric movements: what to investigate or optimize this week.
The numbers are computed by Plask from its own daily metrics store. Claude Haiku only writes the narrative from those pre-computed figures; it never does the arithmetic or touches raw GA4 data. Past digests are kept on the Digests page in the dashboard, so the email is not the only copy. The digest is a Pro feature ($9/mo or $79/yr); the dashboard and in-app alerts are free.

Which one to use
You want the numbers for one property in your inbox: GA4's scheduled email. Set the report to "last 7 days" with a comparison and pick weekly.
You send reports to clients or a manager without GA4 access: Looker Studio. It is free and the PDF is presentable.
You run several properties and want to know what changed, not just see it: Plask's digest. Pair it with anomaly alerts so breakage is caught the next morning rather than the following Monday. Details of the digest are on the AI weekly digest page, and plans are on pricing.
Frequently asked questions
- Can GA4 email me a weekly report automatically?
- Yes. Open any standard or custom report under Reports, click the Share this report icon, and choose Schedule email. Pick daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly, choose PDF or CSV, and select up to 50 recipients who already have access to the property. Only administrators can create schedules, each schedule stays active for 1 to 12 months before it must be renewed, and Explorations cannot be scheduled.
- Can I send a GA4 weekly report to someone without GA4 access?
- Not with GA4's built-in scheduled emails, which only let you select users who have access to the property. Looker Studio's scheduled delivery emails a PDF to any address, up to 50 recipients, which makes it the usual choice for client reporting. Plask's digest goes to the account owner's email and is viewable in the Digests page.
- What does the Plask AI weekly digest contain?
- Every Monday at 08:00 UTC, Plask emails a digest covering the previous Monday-to-Sunday week for all connected properties: week-over-week changes for active users, sessions, pageviews, engagement rate, and revenue; multi-week trends; a recap of anomaly alerts and whether they resolved; a portfolio overview of which properties grew or need attention; and specific recommendations. The numbers are computed by Plask, and Claude Haiku writes the narrative from those pre-computed figures.
- Is a weekly report a substitute for alerts?
- No. A weekly report tells you what happened over the last seven days, so a Tuesday tracking outage surfaces the following Monday. Alerts catch it the next morning. Most people want both: alerts for breakage and a weekly summary for trends. Plask's Pro plan includes both, and GA4 can approximate both with custom insights plus scheduled emails.
